The Jester & the King: Chapter 9 Bonus Material

Davy's Jester Outfit

When I set out to research jester clothes, I had a vague idea of what I wanted. I knew I wanted the tradition shoes, hat, and body-suit, but I wanted something less "goofy". I found this drawing that matched very closely to what I had in mind. Davy's hat, however, is different and so are the sleeves. But, overall, this was a pretty good match.

Davy's Hair

Finding references for Davy's hair was a little more difficult. I wanted something like the traditional medieval women's hairstyles like the one above, but not exactly like it. I wanted something that would fit under a jester's hat and looked more "manly"—though I find it funny to call a hairstyle "manly".

The style in the bottom left of the picture above turned out to be more of what I wanted. It looked tight enough that when Davy started to perform it wouldn't come undone and it was a women's typical hairstyle, but it was roman-esque so it gave that "manly" element.

The next component I wanted to include was ribbon. Many medieval women braided ribbon into their hair and I thought it would fun to include it into Davy's hairstyle.
